Tonight's big match at Montreal Impact is very important for Orlando City. Riding a 5-match unbeaten streak in MLS competition coming into the game, Orlando City has a chance to creep closer to second place New England Revolution with a win tonight. Being four points behind the Revolution (24 points, East 2nd), Orlando City SC (20 points, East 3rd) cannot gain any positions tonight with a win. However, a tie or a loss could see our lads tumble down the table, as Toronto FC (19 points, East 4th) are nipping at our heels, and the final two playoff teams--New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew SC (17 points, East 5th and 6th respectively)--could match us in points if they win and we don't bring back any points from Montreal.
If you want any more keen analysis than that on the actual match, then I'd recommend a couple of excellent match previews done by other passionate Orlando City followers over at The Mane Land and O-Town's 11. Those guys do a great job crunching numbers and stating statistics. Meanwhile, you and I are here for something far more important--the fun part of being fans: a watch party!
Where are we Watching?
We are watching tonight's match at CityPub partner The Hammered Lamb, on Orange Avenue near Lake Ivanhoe in Orlando. And who are we? Well--it will be my tailgate group as well as any friends of the blog and readers who want to come along. If you're interested, hit me up on twitter (@lionsteethblog) during the afternoon and let me know you're coming. I'll see what the good folks at the Lamb can do about getting us more or less seated together at a table or tables.
We're choosing The Hammered Lamb tonight for a couple of reasons. The main one is I promised Phil Rawlins and Lenny Santiago I would go to every City Pub for an away match this season and I'd write about it in the blog. So this is our first time visiting The Hammered Lamb and I'm looking forward to trying someplace new. Also, I sincerely want to support the businesses that support my team. As a fan I love sharing the excitement and passion I have for Orlando City with others, and when Pub and Restaurant owners go out of their way to partner with the club, I think giving them our business and patronage is a good way of showing that we appreciate their shared love of our squad.
When does the Party Start?
The match itself starts at 8pm, but our party will probably get under way earlier. We'll probably get there around 6:30, or about half time of the China vs. Cameroon match in the Women's World Cup.
Why should you Come?
Good question. Well, I hope you'll come because I love seeing new people I've not met before. But if you need a reason other than that, here's one--just think of what an honor it is for you to meet me! Once you realize what an opportunity and privilege you have, you probably won't be able to stay away. I'm guessing. More or less.
Seriously--the real reason to come out is to support Orlando City as we #StopTheImpact tonight. Come out and have some fun and watch a great match. It will be a great party, and you'll get to say you were part of it!
