The headline says it all. Today's match against NYCFC in Yankee Stadium was a complete failure. We cannot blame the refs for this one. This one is squarely on the shoulders of the men in purple who were simply outhustled and outplayed on the pitch today. Scoring three goals is normally a good match, but giving up five is never a good day for the team.
Cyle Larin was on fire today, scoring three quality goals. And Orlando City had their fair share of chances to score more on the offensive end of the pitch. But the defense was simply nonexistent most of the time. As I mentioned on twitter during the match, what passed for defense by Orlando City today seemed to be several guys in purple standing around watching NYCFC shoot at Tally Hall's goal.
It's often been said, "You are what your record says you are," and right now Orlando City's record says our lads are a mediocre team headed for an early end to the season by missing out on the playoffs. If they want to prove me wrong, they're going to have to show me something better on the pitch. Players--prove to me you want to be in the playoffs as much as I want to see you there. Do what it takes to win some matches. Missing the playoffs is not going to make me happy. That's not why I bought season tickets. That's not why I started this blog. Now figure out what you've been doing wrong on defense and start winning. That's all I have. Sorry for not being more eloquent or insightful, but I'm really just a bit disgusted right now.
