Pride Set to Take the Bloom off the Rose

Tonight the Orlando Pride will open their inaugural season on the road in the Rose City as they take on the Portland Thorns. Those of us in the Crown Supporter group will be out at Graffiti Junktion in Thornton Park to watch the match, which has a late kickoff of 10pm Orlando time.

The Thorns won the NWSL Championship in 2013, but as an organization Orlando City is undefeated against teams from Portland, with the lads in the MLS side having won both matches against the Timbers. Hopefully tonight the ladies of the Pride can keep that streak going and help the club earn another victory on the road.

Conventional wisdom is that an expansion side like Orlando Pride will have some issues with all the players gelling and learning to play together. But in their preseason matches, the Pride went undefeated and put up some impressive numbers against some good college sides across the state. I'm hesitant to equate the quality of college sides to NWSL teams until I see a few matches, so I'm honestly hopeful, but completely uncertain, how the match will unfold tonight.

I'm going to be optimistic, though. I have to imagine that in the Carrasco and Morgan household, there is some healthy competition to one-up each other, so I have to imagine that after Orlando City handed the Timbers a 4 - 1 defeat at the Citrus Bowl, the Pride are looking to match or better that on the road. I'm going to predict a 4 - 0 victory for Orlando. But as I said that's more of a complete guess than an educated prediction.
